Introducing… K.S. Jones!

As most of you know, our submissions re-opened November 15th. As I expected, in those first couple of days, the submissions inbox was flooded. Having anticipated this, Murandy and I were ready to jump in and help Robert, our Acquisitions Editor, sort through them all.

One of the first submissions I looked at was a juvenile fantasy by K.S. Jones and it was love at first sight. I immediately sent an email to Robert, “You have to get me the rest of this book!” because I wanted to keep reading it.

Set in Arizona, Black Lightning is a juvenile fantasy about a ten year old boy who, amid trying to come to terms with his grief over the loss of his parents, stumbles into a portal opened by black lightning and finds himself stranded in a strange land called Hearth.

And I’m not the only one who loved it. Here’s what a team of early reviewers has to say about it:

“If you’ve forgotten the magic that lives in a child’s heart, this book will remind you. Black Lightning is a rare and beautiful mythic journey about one boy’s struggle with paralyzing grief and the powerful bonds that can carry a person through this world and beyond…” W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O’Neal Gear USA TODAY and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling authors of People of the Thunder

Already an award-winning author for her historical young adult novel, Shadow of the Hawk, K.S. Jones has started writing middle grade novels and is trying her hand at fantasy. We are very pleased to have her join us and look forward to bringing you Black Lightning in May 2016. For more information and to keep up with the production of K.S Jones’ novel, please subscribe to this blog, follow us on facebook, or join our mailing list.
