Beyond the Bio: David McLain

We asked our authors to tell us a bit about themselves so you can get to know them better. In case you’re not familiar with David McLain yet, he’s the author of The Time Traveller’s Resort and Museum; a curious and wonderful blend of most of the genres that make up Mirror World Publishing. The book, available in ebook, paperback, and even hardcover is also lovingly illustrated by David’s wife, Felix Eddy.

I’ll let David introduce himself:

My name is David McLain, I’m 48 years old, I have three children and when I’m not writing I play the guitar. I can also juggle really well.

What’s your writing process like, David?

This is going to sound pretentious, but I wrote all my books with a pen. I make a lot of spelling mistakes and do a lot of crossing out.

That sounds like a lot of work, honestly. As I mentioned before, The Time Traveller’s Resort and Museum doesn’t really fit neatly into a ‘genre’. In fact, it has a lot of genres in it, time travel, fantasy, comedy and romance to name a few. What genre would you say you write in primarily?

I can’t tell you what genre I write in, because I’ve written five different books in five different genres. I’ve written one film noir, one fantasy, one science fiction novel, one book of poetry, and one children’s book that’s coming up. If I publish another, I’ll probably have to write a biography of William Shakespeare.

Do you have anything in the works now?

My children’s book, Tabitha Won’t Sleep, will be out in August. My daughter, the real Tabitha has read this book over a hundred times, and thinks that she wrote it. Also, I have a blog of funny dialogue about my family. You can find it at http://familiesaregross.wordpress.com (again, not the same genre.)

There you have it! Keep an eye out for Tabitha Won’t Sleep, written by David McLain and illustrated by Felix Eddy, coming to Mirror World August 17th, 2021. And if you haven’t yet checked it out, I certainly recommend The Time Traveller’s Resort and Museum. I’m not kidding when I say it has it all; romance, comedy, time travel, adventure… it’s not to be missed!

David McLain studied writing at the University of Massachusetts. He is the author of the two novels: Dragonbait, and The Life of a Thief. His stories have been published in the anthologies Metastasis, Penny Dread II, and the upcoming Doctor Who Anthology Time Shadows, as well as over two dozen magazines, including Harvard’s Dudley Review. He has been featured on NPR’s Off the Page and the History of England podcast. He lives in New York.
