I hope you’re busy writing, or at least dreaming up your entry for the First (hopefully annual) Mirror World Anthology Contest because our submissions period is coming up fast!
Starting June 1st, 2020 until July 30th, 2020, we’ll be accepting entries for our Far, Far Away Anthology. You can find all of the details here.
Something I forgot to mention is that the anthology will be geared toward a general audience, so unlike our usual policy of picking up works for any age group, please try and keep your anthology entries for anyone to read as opposed to targeting an age market like ‘middle grade’ or ‘young adult’ and also, sex and violence and swearing is ok, but don’t take it too far or we’ll have to trim that stuff in the editing process.
Ok, that being said, let’s introduce our judges! Once your entry arrives, it will be BLIND JUDGED by the following people:
Robert Dowsett – Acquisitions Editor for Mirror World Publishing
With a passionate attention to detail and a lifelong love of reading, becoming an editor seemed the logical choice for Robert. He’ll read almost anything, but prefers imaginative plots with great dialogue and pacing. He makes a hobby of collecting literature and his shelves are always near to bursting, even when he’s just bought a new one!
Christian Laforet – Co-Founder of Adventure Worlds Press, Author, and Short Story Connoisseur
Christian Laforet lives in LaSalle, Ontario with his wife and two children. His works include the short horror collection, The Space Between Houses, a science fiction collection (co-authored), No Light Tomorrow, and a crime thriller novella titled Sugar’s Last Dance, found in the anthology, All These Crooked Streets. His writing has also been published in a number of anthologies and short story collections. He is also co-founder of Adventure Worlds Press. A small publisher dealing in genre fiction. When not writing, he spends an exorbitant amount of time watching horror movies and playing video games. For more on Christian, head over to ChristianLaforet.com
Erika Jones – Literacy Advocate
Erika Jones has spent most of her life with her head in the clouds and her nose in a book. Her life long love affair with literature inspired her to work with local authors, poets and storytellers to initiate Leamington’s first World Book Day Celebration. Erika’s favorite book is the Handmaids Tale and she will never forget meeting author Margaret Atwood as a teenager. She loves to spend her free time kayaking and camping with her husband and her two sons Lucas and Liam.
Murandy Damodred – Co-Founder of Mirror World Publishing, Author
With a background in Drama and Communications from the University of Windsor, Murandy Damodred enjoys fantasy fiction with strong romantic subplots. She is an avid role-player and is happiest when living vicariously through her characters. Though she’d rather think of herself as the heroine of her next novel, in the real world she is a mom of two boys living in Windsor, Ontario, working on her nursing degree.
And yours truly, Justine Alley Dowsett – Publisher and Co-Founder of Mirror World Publishing, Author
Justine Alley Dowsett is the author of nine novels and counting, and one of the founders of Mirror World Publishing. Her books, which she often co-writes with her sister, Murandy Damodred, range from young adult science fiction to dark fantasy/romance. She earned a BA in Drama from the University of Windsor, honed her skills as an entrepreneur by tackling video game production, and now she dedicates her time to writing, publishing, and occasionally role-playing with her friends.
So if you haven’t started yet, get writing! We want to see your short stories, longer stories and novellas somewhere between June 1st and July 31st! Please subscribe to this blog, or our newsletter to be kept up to date on any developments and for our announcement of how and where to submit come June 1st!
Thanks for Reading!
Great cast of judges! Made the odds be forever in the writer’s favor! Cheers!
