You may remember a few months back we mentioned that we were considering running a contest and creating the first ever Mirror World Anthology, well it’s happening!
Here are the details:
We will be accepting submissions between June 1st and July 31st and this contest is open to writers worldwide with no restrictions on who can enter. We’re looking for stories between the length of 5000 words to 25,000 words that are set in or feature other worlds, times or places. If you’re unsure on the kinds of things we look for, please see our submission guidelines or have a look at our published titles to see what we’re all about.
There will be a $15.00 (CAD) entry fee for each story submitted, but rest assured that 100% of the money earned in this way will go towards producing and marketing the anthology and paying the winning authors for their work. We would love to be able to finance prizes for authors without charging an entry fee, but unfortunately that’s just not possible for a press our size.
We’re calling the anthology “Far, Far Away.” The theme as we mentioned before is other worlds, times, and places. That includes distant galaxies, other planets, far off kingdoms, made up worlds, dreamscapes, time travel and pretty much anything else you can think up. Just tell us a character driven story in a far off place and show us what you can do as far as engaging openings, plot, and world-building.
You may want to consider these as jumping off points, though you don’t have to actually start your story with these words:
In a land far, far away…
In a distant galaxy…
Once upon a time…
In the land of _____,
On Planet _____,
In the year _____,
We will choose 4 to 6 entries to be in included in the anthology, depending on the lengths of the winning stories. The winners will be announced September 1st, 2020 and the anthology will be slated to launch some time in 2021.
The prize for the winners is as follows: Publication in our 2021 Anthology titled “Far, Far Away,” a cash prize consisting of a percentage of all the entry fees collected, and an author copy of the printed work.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in being a part of, then please start writing now and beginning June 1st send us your unpublished and original short stories and novellas.
Details on how and where to submit will be announced closer to the contest’s opening date. We look forward to reading your submissions!
Oh, and let us know in the comments, are you interested in this contest? If you did submit something, would you like us to give you feedback on your entry whether we select it for the anthology or not? Let us know!
