I have something to confess; I made a mistake. As those of you who pay attention are probably wondering right now, yes, I am announcing the right book. You may have noticed in our first announcement post for 2020’s line up I said we would be launching the second Nora Simeon Investigates novella, The Demons of Square Mile, next and we will still be launching that book either at the end of 2020, or early in 2021, but time-line wise it will be coming a little later than originally stated to make room for the conclusion of the Unreachable Skies trilogy, which I know a lot of you have been waiting for.
So next up in 2020 is Ascent, the conclusion to the unique and wonderful Unreachable Skies Trilogy by Karen McCreedy.
In Unreachable Skies, Vol. 1 we met Zarda, Fate-seer to her people, the Drax. A winged race, the Drax’s world is ruled by a culture centered around the fact they can fly. When the next generation following a horrific plague is born without wings, prejudice and suspicion follow and the mothers and wingless young are soon exiled from Drax society.
In Exile, Volume 2 of Unreachable Skies, Zarda follows the wingless and their dams into exile. They must brave the deadly wilds of the Crimson Forest on foot to find what lies beyond it and hope that if they make it there, there will be somewhere they can live in peace.
Now, in Ascent, Volume 3 and the conclusion of Unreachable Skies…
Zarda and the Drax she accompanied into exile have settled into a new life, far to the north of their homeland, the Expanse. Having encountered other Drax in the beyond the Crimson Forest, they have pledged their loyalty to Kalon, whose rightful place as Prime was stolen by his brother, Kalis.
Zarda’s one certainty is that Kalis’ wingless heir, Dru, is destined to defeat their old enemy the Koth; but how is he to do that when he is no longer the Prime’s heir? And how can Kalis, his scheming adviser Fazak, and their followers be overcome?
To find the answers, unite the Drax population, and help the rightful Prime take his place in the Spirax, Zarda must first find a way back through the Crimson Forest for the exiles – but danger and betrayal await them all.
Ascent: Unreachable Skies, Vol. 3 will launch September 17th, 2020 with the cover to be revealed the month before, so mark your calendars or sign up for our newsletter or this blog to be kept informed.
