As promised, we’ll be announcing our 2019 line-up of new titles over the next few weeks, alternating those announcements with our weekly serial short story, HL Carpenter’s The Adventures of Flower Girl. So next week you can look forward to reading all about Karen Koski’s upcoming middle grade urban fantasy, The Gimmal Ring, launching March 2019.
This week, however, I have some news of my own to share. Back in the summer I applied to a writer’s residency and just following the holidays, I learned that I was selected to join five other authors for a month-long retreat in New Orleans!
The New Orleans Writers’ Residency is a writers’ collective in the heart of New Marigny, a culturally rich neighborhood close to the French Quarter. The Residency provides space for writers to step away from their lives and focus on writing in the comfort of a restored 19th century shotgun double.

So as of the end of the month and for the duration of February, I will be in New Orleans writing my heart out, learning about the city and the culture, and participating in writer’s workshops and critiques. I haven’t fully decided what I will be writing while I am there, seeing as Murandy and I have just completed our first draft of Mirror’s Despair, but whatever I work on, I’m sure I will make tons of headway with it.
I’m honoured I was chosen for this program and I certainly plan to make the most of it. I’m also super excited for the opportunity and to be recognized professionally for my writing is an amazing thing.
So from now until I depart, I will be working hard to get ahead and clear my schedule for the month by writing blogs, editing, filming more Mirror World News, and preparing manuscripts for production, so I will be one busy publisher over the next few weeks! But hey, it’s worth it. This is what I live for.
Thanks for reading!
P.S. The desk in the photo is one of the ones I might be writing from at the residency!
